The Planning & Development Department at the City of Providence, Rhode Island have today gone live with a fully interactive Interim Comprehensive Plan. The Department is using a Limehouse Software Connection suite to widen and manage the participation process on their website www.providenceplanning.org becoming the first municipality in the United States to make this service available to their citizens.
Citizens and Stakeholders now have the opportunity to interact with the plan and provide feedback against any section of the plan they choose. The public comment period runs from February 28, 2007 to March 30, 2007.
The City has promoted the review period using a press release and by placing links on the home page of their website to ensure that as many citizens as possible have their say using the new service. The software will automate the traditionally labor intensive process of analyzing and reporting on citizen feedback by allowing staff to systematically store and report on feedback for management and public meetings.
Updating the plan has also become a more streamlined process as a result. Staff will have the ability to update just the sections of the plan that require modification and publish the latest version at the touch of a button.
